Konrad Baumgarten

Konrad Baumgarten was a typical wandering printer. He printed in Gdańsk, Olomouc, Wrocław and Frankfurt on the Oder. In Gdańsk, he initially worked as a bookbinder, and in 1495 he founded a printing house. Four prints are known today from the Gdańsk period (until 1499): Agenda for the Vilnius diocese by Marcin of Radom, a textbook of Latin grammar Donatus minor, a letter of indulgence issued by Jan of Ścinawa and a German prayer book. Much richer in content and in terms of typographic resources are his works printed in Wrocław from 1503–1506. About the Baumgarten press in: Z. Nowak, The beginnings of printing art in Pomerania in the 15th century. Ossolineum 1976.

Typefaces are the form of script created for automated text reproduction. Typoteka.pl lists typefaces created over several centuries, for different alphabets, by people born in Poland, and those who came to Poland at some point. Read more...
